Company History

Materials Engineering Group (MEG) was formed by the British Railways Board as a centre for training and materials testing in respect of Welding, Non Destructive Testing, Metallurgy, and Weld Repairs; as well as setting standards where standards had not previously existed.

Privatised in 1996, MEG has expanded from its original "Railway only" customer base to provide services to all industrial sectors including construction, military, power generation, light rail, transportation, etc.

Based on the RTC Business Park in Derby, MEG offers a fully operational welding school with an enviable reputation; capable of training and testing to national and international welding standards.

As appointed welding procedure agents for Zurich Insurance PLC; MEG offer 3rd party accreditation for all procedures and welder approvals. MEG's quality systems are accredited in accordance with ISO standards and hold current Link up accreditation.
